About the Author:
Lewis P. Jones , a native South
Carolinian, was a historian in the research field and a retired history
professor. In 1946, after four years in the U. S. Navy during World
War II, Jones joined the faculty of his alma mater, Wofford College,
Spartanburg, South Carolina. In 1971 he was named chairman of the
history department. Dr. Jones received his Ph.D in history from the
University of North Carolina in1952. He wrote a comprehensive history
of the state entitled South Carolina: One of the Fifty States which
was adopted by the South Carolina Department of Education for use in the
eighth grade. He also wrote The South Carolina Civil War of 1775,
Stormy Petrel: N. G Gonzales and His State and Books and Articles of
South Carolina History. |
