Sandlapper Publishing Company is a regional, independent publisher and distributor of books about the South, primarily South Carolina.  We specialize in nonfiction books of history, travel, cooking, recreation, photography, natural history and folklore.  Subjects of special interest are slavery, Gullah, the American Revolution, the Civil War, plantations, geology, lighthouses, day trips, canoe paddling, the CSS H. L. Hunley, sweetgrass baskets, Charleston and the Palmetto State's natural history.                           

Sandlapper Publishing Company operates as a traditional book publisher. Manuscripts are reviewed for consideration of publication.  Accepted manuscripts are edited and designed in house.  Our books are bound and printed by quality book manufacturers. Sandlapper Publishing Company was established in 1983 by Frank N. Handal (1931-2004).   Mr. Handal purchased the book publishing division of the Sandlapper Magazine of Lexington, South Carolina and began his company in Orangeburg, South Carolina.  Mr. Handal published books about South Carolina and added other publishers books to his list to create a central source of distribution. In 1997, the company was sold to Christian and Amanda Gallman.
