UPSIDE DOWN

A story of Sarah and Angelina Grimke
Growing up in antebellum Charleston, South
Carolina, Sarah and Angelina Grimke had everything proper southern
girls could want: a life of luxury amidst the cream of Carolina
society, servants at their beck and call, a loving family of
intelligent, well educated individuals. Yet, there was one
flaw in the pretty world, and the reality of that flaw was to shape
their actions for as long as they lived.
The hands that held the sisters' world together
were black hands__slave hands. Sarah and Angelina could not
accept a society built on bonds and chains. They fled to the
quiet, orderly world of the Philadelphia Quakers, and then to
Boston, joining the abolitionists.
Timeless crusaders, the Grimkes' faced injustice
wherever they found it and spoke out where others remained silent.
Branded as unfeminine radicals, exiled from home, they fought to
turn the world right-side up. Their story is an unforgettable
portrait of courage in a troubled age
